I just tried out these carborundum brushes, and they're incredible for kitchen cleaning! They're perfect for removing rust and scale, especially from my hob. From the outside it is like a solid cleaning sponge with the harder side, so you can easily clean stubborn spots. Inside it is as careful as a normal sponge and soft.
